Reed switch, also known as tongue reed or magnetic reed switch, is a magnetic sensitive special switch that is the main component of reed relays and proximity switches.

Reed tubes are usually made of two soft magnetic materials with metal reed contacts that open when not magnetized, and some also have a third reed as a normally closed contact.
